Battleship USS New Jersey (BB-62) Ballpoint Pen - Made from Ship's Teakwood Deck

This pen was turned from the Teakwood deck of USS New Jersey (BB-62). The New Jersey is an Iowa Class battleship and earned more battle stars than any of the ships from her class. On a personal note, I served aboard a destroyer during the Lebanese Civil War, and witnessed the mighty ship fire her 16 inch guns several times in anger. We were often paired with the Jersey during fire missions. As I turned the beautiful piece of Teak, the shop filled with an aroma that can only be described as old. All sailors know that ships have souls, and though the ship is gone, her soul lives on.

The aged old forest tree specimen has vibrant and rich grain to it, and I buffed it to a high gloss finish. The pen kit is nautical and made from antiqued brass. It is the perfect gift for a Navy veteran, like myself, or for anyone who loves sailing, the ocean, or things with a historical past. The pen has a solid and heavy feel to it. It uses Parker style refills, which are widely available. It ships in the gift box shown in the photos, along with certificate of authenticity explaining the origins of the wood. By default, I engrave "USS New Jersey (BB-62." You may add to that via any personalization that you like.
