This pen was turned from the Teakwood deck of USS Iowa (BB-61). The Iowa was the lead ship in her class of battleships, and served honorably in both the Atlantic and Pacific during World War II, and in Korea. As I turned the beautiful piece of Teak, the shop filled with an aroma that can only be described as old. All sailors know that ships have souls, and though the ship is gone, her soul lives on.
The aged old forest tree specimen has vibrant and rich grain to it, and I buffed it to a high gloss finish. The pen kit is nautical and made from antiqued brass. It is the perfect gift for a Navy veteran, like myself, or for anyone who loves sailing, the ocean, or things with a historical past. The pen has a solid and heavy feel to it. It uses Parker style refills, which are widely available. It ships in the gift box shown in the photos, along with certificate of authenticity explaining the origins of the wood. By default, I engrave "USS Iowa (BB-61)." You may add to that via personalization.

Extremely well done, my father was in the navy and adores nautical items so a pen made out of a battleship seemed like a nice piece to add to his collection. He was surprised and excited when reading the card that explained the Iowa's history, I thought it was a nice touch and quite interesting. He is quite pleased to have a new pen for doing his paperwork as a teacher.
